FFIS orders coming in thick n fast

Back in March of this year we wrote a post about the FFIS (Farming & Forestry Improvement Scheme) grant scheme and the current round of funding.

To serve as a brief reminder here is a link to the original article.

The round 3 of funding closed for applications in April 2014 and allowing a few months for application paperwork processing and funding payments, we are happy to see that this scheme must be helping our customers and dealers out.

This photo from yesterday shows a (rather packed!) shipment of Hakki Pilke firewood processors going to customers and dealers with the financial assistance afforded by the scheme.

It gives us a great sense of pride that we are playing our part in helping our farming, agricultural and forestry industry clients to maximise their potential with machinery to diversify, improve, quicken and expand their firewood sales operations.

If you want to find out how adding firewood sales can impact your farming business talk to us on +442890 342838 or contact us online and we’ll be happy to advise you.

For a full list of our machinery visit our machinery shop.

stolen credit card image

Hello Everyone,

We have been told of a card purchase scam that is going on, they try to buy goods via credit card, then when goods are received, the credit card payment is stopped.

This has happened to a number of local companies within our local Newtownabbey/Co.Antrim area, in relation to purchasing various items, so please be aware.

Tell tale signs include:

  • They are in most cases not interested in negotiating on quoted prices.
  • They will insist on making payment over the phone with credit card.
  • They will give a mobile number only –  never a landline.
  • They will sometimes say that they are acting as an “agent” or “middle man” for the actual buyer – thereby attempting to avoid giving personal details.
  • They may have holes in their story ( in one case they said they were a private buyer, yet when asked for a delivery address gave a business unit address.)
  • They will ask to send in their own courier.
  • They will request and even insist on no paperwork being produced or sent.

If you are contacted by a buyer who matches any of the above or additional unusual behaviours, you should consider the risks of dealing with them and if in any doubt, contact the police.

We hope this helps to spread the word and reduce the opportunities for scamming and defrauding hard working local businesses.

We in the forestry and firewood machinery sector have done our bit to supply woodfuel from firewood processors and kindling machines ,so that we can all enjoy  toasty open fires and wood stoves.

It’ll soon be time to take a little time off with our nearest and dearest so before we do, we reflect on the year passed.

So when we said it was the most important Christmas tree in the country after posting about installing it, we weren’t too far wrong!

Twitter and Facebook had pics, posts and tweets galore when it was blown over by the unforeseen high winds that battered the UK.

So as we have been involved with the installation, the post storm clear up and now the restitution of the Stormont Christmas Tree, we thought people would like to see it back and proud again.

The gallery below consists of the photos of before, after (from Twitter) and then after again.

Good to see normality again at Stormont.

computer gremlins in M.Large

Some of you may have experienced some anomalies whilst accessing our website over the past few days.

Unfortunately we have been beset with few “gremlins in our systems” and have been working to restore them.

We have moved our site and catalogue to a new and faster server and hope that this is better for our customers and viewers in the longer term.

In the meantime, if you have or indeed are experiencing any issues, just check back a little later on.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience and assure you of our best efforts to catch the little blighters and get things back to normal shortly.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

A lovely mild winters morning was the backdrop for the installation of the most important and celebrated Christmas tree in the country, the tree at Stormont.

M.Large arrived to the site shortly before 8 am with 2 x mobile lorry mounted HIAB knuckle cranes and a crew of 2 operators and an arborist.

The 15m giant tree selected by our highly qualified arboriculturalist team dwarfed the crane truck delivering it, so it was clear from the off this would be an impressive specimen.

The crane’s worked on a “top n tail” basis with precision to lift the tree, bring it to a standing position and carefully drop it into the installation hole, positioned just  to the right of the famous steps.

Once into the hole, further precise corrections by the skilled crane operators were made in rotating, tilting and even taking just an inch or 2 of bark off the bottom to make it fit…amazing how just a few inches makes all the difference even working with a huge example like this, (food for thought for us all when the home trees are being put up.)

Once straight and into position the tree was supported by a series of wedges sledgehammered into place on all sides to create a solid immovable installation.

A little off the side?

A little off the side?

And that was just about it.

Send the climbing arborist up to grab the crane lifting tackle, retract the cranes….and now it’s the turn of the sparks with the lights.

M.Large new website launched

For the eagle eyed among you, you may realise that this isn’t our old website…and you’d be right!

We have for a few months now been planning, scheming, concocting and populating a brand new shiny, right out of the tissue paper website…for M.Large and really …for you.

What do we mean?

Simple really….we built the whole site with you, our customers and supporters in mind, to inform you, guide you, serve you and assure you about our range of machinery and services.

Services and Company information

We’ve included detailed information about what we do and offer, how we conduct our business and how we excel in our field.

We’ll be featuring showcases on recent projects and those of particular interest on our blog, such as those which demonstrate and cement the relationship between our services and machinery sales divisions.

Here is where you’ll find our environmental and Safety policies, our accrediations, our corporate social responsibility section, and any other company information needed for selecting a professional tree works contractor or issuing an invitation to tender for related works.

We have built this section as a pure product catalogue.  With a  structured navigation system and  all content named and titled for search engine friendliness,  we have designed this section to get you quickly to the products you are looking for.

  • Product listings have all been built with detailed and crisp product images plus a “magnifier” to get in close to details, controls, features and the like.
  • Products also include key features or descriptions and full technical specifications.
  • One click buttons will print the page, share the content, request a price, request a demo and ensure we get in touch with you.
  • We’ve included videos of the machines and products in action so you can see the benefits brought to your set of specific requirements.
  • And in the additional information sections we have downloadable datasheets and brochures to view, save and print.
  • In the coming weeks we will also be adding sections to enable you to download operator manuals to keep you running and informed about the specifics of your machinery.

We’ve put a lot of thought into how we wanted this to work. We hope it works for you, however as with anything new, we understand it can take a bit of time to get used to.

Therefore we are only too happy to point you in the right direction if you can’t find what you’re looking for.

first 2013 christmas tree arrives to m.large

…We all do it, we moan and grumble at seeing the big stores stocking mince pies and christmas paraphernalia from as early as September…we see it as a calendar marker, almost an early warning, along with those friendly words from friends in texts or on facebook, only x number of shopping days left til christmas…yes thank you very much!!!

There is however one thing that we at M.Large (and we think most of you) can’t help but see as a welcome precursor to the season of joy and goodwill, and that’s the arrival of the Christmas trees.

We were delighted to see the arrival of this magnificent 13M high example last week, to be installed for Ballymena Borough Council and we’ll be straight with you, a few were out in the yard, taking pics with our smartphones with big smiles on our faces.

First Christmas tree2_Fotor_Collage

We like to believe there’s a little magic in a town’s Christmas tree and it brings a drop of community spirit and pride in seeing it adorned and standing proud in the places where we live.

So we’ll be snapping a few pics of the trees we transport and install, in the gallery below….and we hope it raises a smile or two from you too.
